  • People and culture are the backbone of Sportsman, guided by professionalism, commitment and integrity.
  • Innovation and engineering drive high quality boats with design driven features and a mindset of continuous improvement based on customer feedback.
  • A strong community and dealer and customer service network build trust and deliver a total ownership experience that lasts years after purchase.

On our final episode of the first season of Behind The Glass we are going to talk to the team that works behind the scenes to produce the world class boats produced by Sportsman and what sets us apart from the competition.

Owner and Founder Tommy Hancock started the company in 2011 with a hand-picked team. Ten years later, Sportsman is the fastest-growing center console and bay boat line in the US. In 2011, Sportsman wanted to bring a fresh and new look to the boating industry. A solid team behind the company is what brings the entire mission to fruition. We sat down with some of the folks responsible for different facets of the organization and chatted about what makes a Sportsman, a Sportsman.

Director of Engineering, Peter Morgan, believes in the idea that the quality of your boat is only as strong as the people that build them. Sportsman lives by the words professionalism, commitment, integrity, family, and innovation. Following these ideas is what keeps the Sportsman Family building the highest quality of boats for our customers. Bringing in team culture and combining that with continuous improvement is a daily mission that pushes us to please our customers and create the best product possible. Building boats is a labor of love, and we at Sportsman make sure that our customers are taken care of when issues arise.

The vision behind Sportsman isn't all about the boats but the community surrounding it. Richie Rogers, Director of Sales, takes pride in our world-class dealer network and customer service network. Providing customers with a total ownership experience that they can trust years after they purchased their boat. Having the trust of the buyers is just as important as having the highest quality boats. Russ Tomlinson, Vice President, wanted to make sure that we maintained a solid relationship with customers and dealers. Having up-front internet pricing creates a level of trust between Sportsman and the buyer that is hard to beat. Knowing what you're investing in from every piece of your boat is essential, and seeing your value dollar for dollar is very important to Sportsman.

Model Year 2022 is Sportsman's 10th anniversary; in ten years, Sportsman has grown tremendously. Jeff Hudson, Director of Product Development, credits the initiative to be an engineering-based company and to the growth in the past 2-3 years. Innovation is at the root of every boat; design-driven features sets us apart. Designing in features to the boats makes for a turn-key ready boat up to buyers' standards. Looking into customer feedback also drives decision-making. Continues process improvement, is a day-to-day activity taken at Sportsman, so we can always be ahead of the game. Listening to the cause, creating a solution, and then taking that solution to action gets the boats through production as quickly and seamlessly as possible.

At the end of the day, the people are what makes this business so great. Having the best people, most loyal customers, and supportive dealers is what makes a Sportsman Boat hold its value. Creating a product made for you and continuing to develop that product over time is what we love to do.
