Sportsman Boats are built in the low country of South Carolina. Boasting beautiful sights on the marsh and beach front, offering tons of history, local delicacies, and of course, a fishery fit for a true angler. This time of year as the days get shorter, the temperature drops, and summer traffic slows, the fall bite picks up. The swell of hurricanes offshore mixed with the change in seasons makes for the ultimate time of year for the outdoorsman.

  • Bite timing in Charleston coastal waters depends on weather shifts and tides, with seasonal changes also playing a role.
  • Masters series boats offer a shallow draft. They include onboard features such as a second station, transducers and Garmin screens and jackplates.
  • The marsh flats support redfish, flounder and trout.

The changing weather and tides is what is really important for the fishing climate here in Charleston. The hurricanes and afternoon showers change the biometric pressure in the air which affects the swim bladder in fish. If there is a rising pressure there is a lower chance for them to be feeding, but as a cold snap comes through the area and the pressure falls and the fish start to bite. Getting to know your area, the tides, and if there are patterns that coincide with the bite will make days on the boat go smoother and may increase your success on the water.

The marsh flats that are plentiful in the low country provide a fantastic fishery for the local redfish (holding multiple names such as red drum, spot tails, and bull reds) flounder, and trout. These mudflats provide the perfect habitat for baitfish such as shrimp, mullet, and mud minnows. The masters line of Sportsman is cut out for the inshore fishing style. There are so many standards and options that can make your day out on the water more comfortable and successful.

The shallow draft of the masters series boats allow you to get skinnier than your typical deep-v offshore vessel. Paired with your masters comes your transducer and Garmin screens. This allows you to see what type of structure you may be fishing off of, bait in the vicinity, and even fish hanging out below your boat. The second station option also is a great way to spot fish from above the waterline. This is great for finding tailing redfish in the flats. The second station also adds more rocket launchers for your rods.

Some boats in the masters series come standard with a jackplate so you can be sure to get your motor up and out of the water to fully optimize your inshore fishing experience. You can get to know more about how to use the jackplates properly in our TechTalk episode below!

There are also under gunwale rod racks paired with other rod holders to be sure you have plenty of room for equipment. To help with organization, some masters models come with a leaning post tackle station, outfitted for your convince. Along with this the Masters series comes with plenty of storage including bow compartments under our bow casting decks.
