When it comes to versatility on the water, a bay boat delivers in both performance and purpose. Bay boats are uniquely designed for inshore fishing while being capable of venturing offshore on calmer days. At Sportsman, we’re proud of our Masters series of bay boats, ranging from 22- feet to 26-feet in length, each model crafted to offer the optimal blend of shallow-water accessibility and open-water resilience.

The primary appeal of bay boats lies in their shallow draft, which makes them perfect for navigating narrow creeks, marshes, and shallow flats. This feature makes them ideal for targeting fish species like redfish, trout and snook which thrive in these environments. However, unlike traditional flatboats that struggle in rougher water, bay boats are built to handle choppier conditions. The Masters series’ hulls are designed to cut through waves, offering stability and comfort even as the conditions get tougher.

To enhance this capability, our bay boats come with the innovative Seakeeper Ride system. This system actively reduces the boat’s pitch and roll, giving anglers and passengers a smoother experience whether they’re cruising through calm waters or handling mild chop nearshore.

One of the standout features of a bay boat is its large bow casting platform, which is notably different from the bow space on traditional deep V-hull center consoles that features seating and more freeboard. The spacious casting platform provides anglers with ample room to cast lines from the bow area without obstruction. Additionally, the large area gives you plenty of room for throwing a cast net for bait.

The design also offers flexibility. By converting the bow casting area into a sunpad with cushions and backrests, the bay boat becomes an ideal vessel for family outings to the sandbar. This dual-purpose feature allows for a seamless transition from fishing adventures to leisure-filled days with family and friends.

While bay boats excel in shallow, inshore environments, they can also handle nearshore excursions under the right conditions. Their stable design, coupled with the Seakeeper Ride system, offers peace of mind for captains and passengers who want the option to venture further on calm days. With this blend of capability, bay boats have become a popular choice for those looking to fish inshore while still having the confidence to head offshore when the weather allows. The hybrid approach is another reason why at Sportsman we offer our OE models or Open Edition models. The Masters 267OE and Masters 247OE remove the large bow casting platform and gain a wrap around fishing area that gives anglers more security at the bow when offshore.
