The Open 402 is the flagship of the Sportsman lineup, combining offshore range, luxury accommodations, advanced technology and serious fishing capability into one remarkable platform. Learn what makes the Open 402 the most advanced center console Sportsman has ever built.

The Sportsman Specs series is all about looking beyond the specifications and understanding how each model is designed to perform on the water. At the very top of the lineup sits the Open 402, the largest and most advanced center console Sportsman has ever built.
The Open 402 is more than simply a bigger version of the Open Series. It was designed from the ground up to serve as the flagship of the brand, bringing together offshore capability, luxury accommodations, advanced technology and serious fishability into a platform capable of competing in an entirely different class of center consoles.
At 40 feet 4 inches in length with a 13 foot beam, the Open 402 immediately stands apart from every other model in the lineup. The additional beam creates tremendous space throughout the boat, from the cockpit and helm deck to the bow seating and cabin below. Whether you're entertaining guests, spending multiple days offshore or simply moving around the boat while fishing, the amount of usable space is one of the first things owners notice. The Open 402 feels less like a large center console and more like a true offshore yacht.
Fuel capacity further reinforces the mission of the platform. With 650 gallons of fuel capacity and approximately 600 gallons usable, the Open 402 is designed for serious range and extended adventures. Whether that means long offshore canyon runs, island hopping through the Bahamas or spending multiple days on the water, the Open 402 provides the confidence to travel farther without constantly focusing on fuel management.
The ride is equally impressive. With a 23 degree deadrise at the transom, a 40-foot running surface and substantial displacement, the Open 402 is built to maintain comfort and control when conditions become challenging. Larger offshore swells, head seas and changing conditions are exactly where the size of the platform begins to show its advantages. The result is a ride that feels composed, predictable and confidence inspiring when covering long distances offshore.
Performance is remarkable considering the size of the platform. Powered by quad Yamaha F350s, quad Mercury Verado 400s or quad Mercury Verado 425s, the Open 402 is capable of speeds approaching 70 mph while still maintaining efficient cruise performance in the mid-30 mph range. It is a combination of speed, range and capability that allows owners to cover serious distance while maintaining the comfort expected from a boat of this size.
That capability starts with how the Open 402 is built. Unlike most of the Sportsman lineup, the Open 402 features a fully vacuum infused hull, deck and stringer system. This advanced manufacturing process allows Sportsman to precisely control resin content throughout the structure, creating an incredibly strong, rigid and consistent platform while optimizing weight. Combined with 100 percent composite construction and no wood in the build, the Open 402 represents the most advanced construction process ever utilized by Sportsman.
At the helm, the Open 402 showcases the most advanced implementation of SportLink® in the lineup. Twin Garmin 22-inch multifunction displays serve as the centerpiece of a helm designed around technology and control. Garmin navigation, sonar, radar, Yamaha engine data, SeaStar Interact DCM digital switching, JL Audio integration and onboard system monitoring are all centralized into one intuitive interface. The result is a clean, modern helm that gives the captain complete control over the boat's systems and navigation environment.
Technology continues throughout the vessel. Optional features like Seakeeper stabilization, FLIR thermal imaging, Starlink connectivity and premium entertainment systems allow owners to customize the Open 402 for everything from offshore fishing to luxury cruising and extended overnight adventures.
One of the defining features of the Open 402 is the cabin below deck. Rather than simply providing a head compartment, the Open 402 incorporates a true cabin space complete with a queen berth, convertible dinette, galley, refrigerator, microwave, storage and a private head with separate shower. These accommodations dramatically expand how the boat can be used, making overnight trips and extended cruising much more comfortable for owners and guests.
Fishing remains at the core of the platform. Large pressurized aquarium livewells, oversized fish boxes, extensive rod storage, wide cockpit workspaces and available second station configurations ensure the Open 402 remains every bit as capable as an offshore fishing machine as it is a luxury cruiser.
What truly separates the Open 402 is how successfully it combines all of these elements into a single platform. It delivers the range of a long-distance cruiser, the accommodations of a cabin boat, the technology of a modern yacht and the fishability of a dedicated offshore center console. It represents the flagship vision of the Open Series and showcases what is possible when Sportsman combines offshore performance, innovation and luxury into one platform.
