The Heritage 231 is Sportsman’s best-selling boat, combining family comfort, watersports versatility and fishing capability into one easy-to-own center console. Learn why the Heritage 231 continues to be the go-to choice for so many boaters.

The Sportsman Specs series is all about looking beyond the specifications and understanding what makes each model unique. The Heritage 231 sits right in the heart of the Heritage lineup, offering a balance of family comfort, watersports capability and fishing functionality that makes it one of the most versatile boats Sportsman builds.
The Heritage 231 has become the best-selling boat in the Sportsman lineup because it represents the sweet spot for so many owners. Large enough to comfortably handle family adventures, watersports and fishing trips, yet still easy to trailer, store and maintain, it delivers the versatility that many boaters are searching for in a single platform.
At 23 feet 4 inches in length with an 8 foot 6 inch beam, the Heritage 231 is large enough to comfortably handle a full crew while remaining easy to trailer, store and operate. For many owners, this size represents a sweet spot. It offers significantly more space and capability than a smaller bay boat or skiff, while remaining far more approachable than larger offshore-focused center consoles. With a 12-person capacity, the Heritage 231 is designed around bringing family and friends along for the adventure.
What separates the Heritage Series from the Open Series is the layout philosophy. While the Open Series leans heavily toward offshore fishing, the Heritage Series prioritizes comfort, social space and versatility. The Heritage 231 features a spacious U-shaped bow seating area, a full-width stern bench seat and abundant storage throughout the boat, creating a layout that feels equally at home pulling kids on tubes, cruising the Intracoastal Waterway or spending the afternoon at the sandbar.
Despite its family-friendly focus, the Heritage 231 still carries many of the fishing features boaters expect from Sportsman. Twin 10-gallon livewells, rod storage, freshwater washdown capability and an open cockpit layout allow the boat to transition seamlessly from family cruiser to fishing platform whenever the opportunity presents itself.
The Heritage 231 is powered by a single outboard with up to 300 horsepower available. That combination provides strong performance while helping keep ownership, maintenance and operating costs lower than larger twin-engine platforms. The hull features a 20-degree deadrise at the transom, providing a ride that remains comfortable in chop while still delivering the efficiency and shallow-water capability many coastal boaters appreciate. With a draft of just 16 inches, the Heritage 231 can comfortably explore creeks, sandbars and shallow coastal waters that larger boats may avoid.
Fuel capacity comes in at 116 gallons with approximately 106 gallons usable, providing excellent range for full days on the water. Whether you're running between waterfront restaurants, exploring new waterways or spending an entire day pulling water toys, the Heritage 231 offers plenty of fuel capacity for the journey.
Like every Sportsman, the Heritage 231 is built using SportTech® advanced fabrication methods and features 100 percent composite construction with a fiberglass stringer system and no wood in the build. This construction approach helps create a strong, rigid platform designed for long-term durability in harsh marine environments while maintaining the ride quality Sportsman owners expect.
At the helm, the Heritage 231 benefits from Sportsman's SportLink® integration system. Garmin electronics, digital switching and onboard systems are brought together into a centralized interface that simplifies operation and keeps the dash clean and organized. All Sportsman Boats come standard with Garmin electronics and Garmin VHF radios, giving owners modern navigation and communication capabilities right from the factory.
One of the biggest strengths of the Heritage 231 is how many different activities it can support in a single day. You can spend the morning fishing, cruise to lunch at a waterfront restaurant, pull kids on a tube in the afternoon and finish the day relaxing at the sandbar without ever feeling like the boat was designed specifically for only one purpose.
The Heritage 231 embodies what the Heritage Series is all about. It combines family-focused comfort, watersports versatility, fishing capability and Sportsman quality into a package that is easy to own, easy to trailer and ready for whatever the day on the water brings.
